Therapy for People Pleasing & Perfectionism in Hamilton, ON

You don’t have to earn your worth through doing everything right.

Common Reasons For Seeking Therapy

You might be considering therapy if you’re experiencing:

  • Difficulty saying no or setting boundaries

  • Fear of disappointing others or being judged

  • Constantly striving to meet high (often self-imposed) standards

  • Struggling to relax or feel “enough”

  • Overextending yourself at work, in relationships, or school

  • Self-worth tied closely to achievements or others’ approval

Whatever your reason for seeking therapy, we’ll work together to find solutions that work for you.

Find Your Fit: Therapist Matching Tool

Match with a therapist on our team that fits your needs! Tell us a little about yourself, and a team member will get back to you in 1-2 business days.

If you constantly feel pressure to meet others’ expectations, avoid conflict, or always appear “together,” you might be stuck in patterns of people pleasing or perfectionism. While these patterns may have helped you feel safe or accepted in the past, they can leave you feeling depleted, anxious, or unsure of who you really are. Therapy can help you reconnect with yourself—without the constant pressure to perform.

How Therapy Can Help

Therapy offers space to explore where these patterns come from and how they show up in your daily life. Together, we’ll work toward more balance, self-trust, and freedom to show up as your full self.

  • Understand the roots of perfectionistic or people-pleasing tendencies

  • Develop self-compassion and reduce harsh inner criticism

  • Explore what you truly want—beyond what others expect

Our Approach

We approach this work gently, knowing these patterns are often deeply rooted in past experiences or relationships. Our focus is on helping you reclaim your time, energy, and sense of self—without guilt.

  • CBT & ACT: Challenge rigid thought patterns and connect with your values

  • IFS & Parts Work: Work with inner critics and overfunctioning parts with compassion

  • Somatic & Nervous System Practices: Reduce the body’s stress response to saying no or being imperfect

Emily Grunthal 50-minute sessions are $160. All Associate Therapists 50-minute sessions are $145. We are currently, accepting sliding scale clients! Please note: As of September 2024, psychotherapy is now tax-exempt! Session fees are flat charges. We aim to make therapy accessible and offer a sliding scale for those in need.
  • How much therapy do I need?
This is completely up to you and is unique for each person we work with. Some people find that weekly sessions are helpful, others find that coming bi-weekly or monthly visits fit better with their schedule. When coming regularly, most people report noticing change(s) after 8–10 sessions. Some people prefer to go with "lifestyle" counselling, where they pop in when needed. We typically suggest you attend therapy weekly for at least a month, so your therapist can gain an understanding of your life, background, and current challenges. Then, perhaps you switch to bi-weekly for several months. After this time, we will work together to come up with a treatment schedule that fits your goals and lifestyle. However, therapy at Noia Wellness is designed to be personalized. Book a free consultation today to chat more with us.
  • What's walk & talk therapy?
Walk & Talk Nature Therapy is essentially the same as in-person or virtual therapy, just outside! Please note: walk & talk therapy is only offered to returning clients. If you're a new client and interested in walking, we require an initial session, plus a follow-up session before starting walk & talk therapy. You can read more about Nature-based therapy on our website.

We do not bill directly to insurance companies. You can, however, submit your receipt to your insurance company for reimbursement of some services. Check with your insurance to see if Registered Psychotherapy is covered. If you're interested in Walk & Talk therapy, we also suggest double-checking with your provider to see if "gentle walking, registered psychotherapy" is covered.
  • What is psychotherapy and how can it help me?

At Noia Wellness, our focus is on providing a holistic approach to psychotherapy, integrating traditional talk therapy with other psychotherapy treatment interventions. We work with clients to identify patterns and beliefs that may be impacting their mental health, while also incorporating body-based interventions to reduce stress in the nervous system and promote self-awareness. At Noia Wellness, we believe in providing compassionate and personalized care to help our clients lead meaningful and fulfilling lives, ensuring they feel seen and heard for who they truly are.
